Exhaled Nitric Oxide (eNO) Test New at Allergy, Asthma & Sinus Center!

Procedure Description:
For the benefit of our patients, our office now offers this test. This simple, quick and non-invasive procedure will help us to better manage your asthma. It works by measuring Nitric Oxide (NO) in human breath. Exhaled nitric oxide is a sensitive marker for airway inflammation, and can help predict the onset of asthma symptoms or loss of asthma control.

Some of the specific benefits of knowing your eNO include:
-Insight into steroid effectiveness to you
-Prediction of steroid response to you
-Steroid dose-titration that reduces cost and improves the outcome of your
treatment

What To Expect:
The test is simple and is administered through a portable device. The patient simply inhales deeply and exhales through a disposable filter. The results are displayed almost immediately on-screen. For more information, please visit the NIOX website.

Lung Test

Procedure Description:
A Spirometry measures lung capacity for evaluation of asthma.

What To Expect:
The procedure is simple and involves inhalation and exhalation maneuvers through a mouthpiece which is connected to a computer.

Skin Test

Procedure Description:
Aeroallergen and Food skin prick testing

What To Expect:
Your sensitivity to various airborne allergens (such as pollen or spores) and foods is determined by scratching the surface of the skin with a sharp plastic device. The results are interpreted within 20 minutes.

Pre-procedure:
No antihistamines can be taken ten days prior to skin testing. This includes Allegra, Claritin, Clarinex, Zyrtec, and a variety of over the counter antihistamines including Benadryl.

Post-procedure:
If you have allergies you will experience itching on your back at the site of skin testing.
